Intensive Interaction
The goal of Intensive Interaction is to promote the development of basic social and communication skills for people with severe learning disabilities through effective interactive processes. In our school, this strategy helps the weakest students to learn in an environment that is full of motivation and responsiveness.Providing a “Responsive Environment” means that the teacher givers an immediate response and appropriate feedback to every behavior of the student. When students feel that they are being attended to, their desires to communicate and to interact with each other will then be strengthened. Through continuous interaction, students' basic communication and social skills are established.
According to students' unique characteristic, different intensive interaction techniques will be applied, including: imitation, turn in, repetition, pause, joint focus and action, turn-taking and eye contact.
In the process of learning and teaching, teachers would deliberately create opportunities for students to participate actively, to take the lead and to extend the interaction, so that students can experience their own value and be respected.
