Multisensory Teaching Strategy
Multi-sensory strategy is a teaching strategy that uses different senses, including sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, etc., to enhance the learning effect. The purpose is to enable students to use a combination of senses to perceive things, thereby to trigger their interests in exploring the environment, to strengthen their learning motivation, to improve their attention, and to deepen their understanding of things.
For example, to learn the concept of” flower”, teacher can show real flowers, allowing students to perceive different forms of flowers with their sense of smell, sight, and touch, thereby to develop a better understanding of this concept. Teacher must be sensitive to the abilities of how students receive information, since some students may not be able to respond to too much information at the same period of time. Therefore, when using this strategy, teacher needs to consider how muchsensory input to be given and what is the appropriate way of deliveringthese simulations, in order to avoid unnecessary stimulations, which affect students' learning effectiveness.
