The Care for the Carer Program. Complex Medical Case Food Lab
Caritas Jockey Club Lok Yan School
Caritas Jockey Club Lok Yan School is a special school for patients with severe intellectual and physical disabilities aged 6-18 at Caritas Medical Centre. Among them, up to 96% of students have severe chronic diseases and dysfunction, that require special medical care and / or frequent or long-term health care. This group of children are regarded as complex medical case. The students’ food is mainly pureed and fluid diet , and 95% need to be fed by other or fed with a nasogastric tube or gastrostomy tube . To take care of children and improve their quality of life, 36% of parents are full-time carers, lacking opportunities for personal growth and development.
Complex Medical Case Food Lab
Complex Medical Case, CMC for short, and CMC is also the English abbreviation of Caritas Medical Centre. This multi-functional Food Lab under the “The Care for the Carer Program” was funded by Operation Santa Clasus from 2018 to 2020.
Target
1 Unlock the potential of carers, improve self-image, develop support networks, improve the quality of life of CMC of different ages, and promote healthy diet and healthy life to the public.
2 Provide a fully equipped kitchen to create economical, fast, easy, healthy and delicious recipes to meet the special dietary needs of CMC.
3 Function as a research and resource center to conduct menu research, culinary training, food arts, and public education.
4 Provide a simulated restaurant environment for students’ learning five-senses learning courses.
